here at tricia’s tomatoes, there are few governing principles. we resist traditional corporate pillars. there’s a core brand ethos for sure, yes - one founded on a love of rom coms and wine at lunch. i’m still workshopping our mission statement, but there’s far too much “peanut butter” between tricia’s tomatoes and your typical Waystar Royco corporate environment. THAT SAID, there is one singular idea we share with New York based capitalist corporations and that is SUMMER FRIDAYS. At it’s most basic -a Summer Friday is when you FUCK OFF early every Friday from MDW to LDW. Better yet, you don’t FUCK ON at all. But it’s more than that. It’s a mood. It’s a vibe. It’s a solo 11:30 am Aperol Spritz. It’s an $8 latte in the West Village. It’s a pilates class while your apple watch buzzes with work chats that are certainly not your problem. It’s a hot girl walk down the west side highway and calling your mom because you have so much rando shit to talk she’s the only one you can trust. It’s a 3pm movie in a thunderstorm. It’s a room service quesadilla at the hotel of your best friend’s wedding. It’s an outdoor concert. It’s the song Raspberry Beret by Prince. It’s HILLSTONE. There’s “Happy Hour” and then there’s Summer Fridays.
tricia’s tomatoes works smarter, not harder and we certainly do not work on Fridays in the Summer.
SO we’ll be moving to publishing mid week starting next week. Hopefully it’ll brighten up your dreary ass Weds/Thurs (whatever I’m in the mood for because btw we also don’t work too hard on Mondays) while you day dream about your Summer Friday. The movies are going to pop this Summer. I’m already predicting Barbie to break tricia’s tomatoes records. TV fucked off this week to make way for the Summer of Film. If you’re wondering why all your fav shows ended at the same time, it’s because they had to finish by May 31 to be eligible in this September’s Emmys. TV was quite honestly as good, if not better, than the movies these last few months so let’s quickly discuss -
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - I think that Botz and I are the only people under 50 who religiously watch and love this show and TBH you’re all missing out. Its beautiful. As a Gilmore Girls Fanatic (GG is core memories, my mom and I watched it together, it will always remind me of that and her <3), Maisel delivers 10 fold. Whatever season was before this was just ok, but Amy Sherman-Palladino took the notes. It was an extremely lovely final season that tied up every loose end without being cheesy. I cried.
Ted Lasso - Lost the Plot. It lowkey became 7th Heaven !??!?!?! I’ll always look back fondly on this show, particularly a few episodes in the second season, but this season felt like Sesame Street at times. It was a nice ending with a few nice moments, but I’m done with Jason Sudeikis working through his own divorce on my time. I’d rather keep taking his sister’s dance cardio classes as my therapy.
Vanderpump Rules - dear jesus. I am so grateful for my life. I really am. Every single day I wake up so happy to be alive, living my dream. Like I have said, aging is a privilege. Could it be better, obviously! I could really use a trust fund and a PJ! Working sucks, but being alive to witness the absolute gold standard of reality television that is Vanderpump Rules, makes not being on a yacht in the South of France every Summer Friday worth it. I mean Botz is even on my same page. He wishes he was James Kennedy. A direct text I received today regarding some people he encountered at the West Palm Beach Hertz rental car - “SUBHUMAN to quote my girl Ariana”. My friend said she can’t get Alpine Snow as a nail color because of Sandoval’s white nails. Him and Raquel are deplorable and I cannot get enough. It’s not over yet, so we’ll connect next week on the final part of the reunion.
And last, but certainly not least -
Succession- *please picture me giving a 10 min Cannes level standing ovation*
Wow. Just WOW.
“only thing is I could’ve used a sib suicide” - my husband said. Agreed, I kind of wish Kendall jumped LOL I wanted one more Logan death level twist, but that’s just so picky of us. It was 10/10. So hard to see it end. I had soured on it a little in the last two epis, but the series finale delivered. I came home from europe (no big deal, kind of a big deal) avoided all spoilers, ordered a bagel, phones away, lowered the black out shades, turned all the lights off - movie theater lighting + a Diptyque candle, I was just was positively captivated by the last ever 90 mins of Roy sibling squabbles. The Sopranos will always reign as my favorite TV show of all time, but friends agree, Succession will be a close second.
I’d be happy to get into my fav moments of the show, but for now it’s time for me to you know what and drink rose in the sun.
Summer Fridays Forever!
ciao!
