episode 3: a little of everything
what do the critics choice awards, cold stone orders, horcruxes, and bruce bozzi have in common? my brain!
Oh hi there! Let’s get into it! Sorry this is a little late today! I hope this is the last thing you read before *slams laptop shut til Monday*.
#AwardsSzn is in FULL swing!!!!!! Just 5 days after the Golden Globes were the Critics Choice Awards. Admittedly I didn’t watch live, but still have a few takeaways to prepare us for a BIG WEEK NEXT WEEK! THE OSCAR NOMINATIONS ARE ANNOUNCED TUESDAY AM! Expect tricia’s tomatoes official predictions in your inbox Monday night along with plenty of other content next week. Settle in, I hope you like the (written) sound of my voice :)
Critics Choice Awards NOTES:
Brendan Fraser beat out Austin Butler for Best Actor! There’s been Oscar buzz for the Fraser comeback tour since his performance in ‘The Whale’ received a 10 min standing O at the Don’t Worry Darling Venice Film Festival. He plays a 600 lb man attempting to reconnect with his teenage daughter (Sadie Sink) after previously leaving their family for a man - heavy, literally! 🥁 In my GG debrief I mentioned he boycotted the globes after accusing the former HFPA president of groping him so there was about a 0% chance they were going to give him a statue, but still this win solidified my thoughts that Best Actor is a wide open race. Butler is still probably in the lead, but much more to come!
On the other hand, get Vegas on the line because in my professional opinion Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress are LOCKED in for Ke Huy Quan and Angela Bassett respectively.
Neither of the two Golden Globe Best Picture winners won at the Critics Choice Awards! I hope that means this category is wide open too. It’s never fun when one movie dominates. I’m fine that best supportings are baked but I’m rooting for chaos and uncertainty in the rest of the categories.
Lastly, it seems the stylists and stars read my unsolicited negative feedback on GG looks in last week’s newsletter and stepped up their game!!!!!!! This was a much better red carpet showing than the globes. It's said that stars feel more comfortable taking bigger fashion risks at these “second tier” award shows, *eye roll*. I hope everyone was just working out some kinks getting back into a full blown, “post” covid awards season and will continue to deliver the big fits and fashun.
Bonus points for the COLD STONE CREAMERY BRANDED STEP AND REPEAT PHOTO OPP at the CC RED CARPET!!!!!!!!!!!!! TRUE CAMP! By now I am sure you’ve seen the memes but ICYMI. I, along with the rest of the internet, have been giggling about it all week. What was your Cold Stone order? Mine is semi boring - chocolate ice cream with Reese’s. Growing up my town was also #blessed with Cold Stone’s competitor, the A&F to its American Eagle if you will, Marble Slab Creamery. Maybe they’ll be sponsoring the SAGs!
MOVING ON -
In my debut newsletter I said there were enough outlets rounding up celebrity current events and I’d only go there with piping hot takes, so without further ado:
I believe Kimberly Nicole Kardashian is in the process of splitting her soul and creating Horcruxes using dead celebrities’ relics to preserve her eternal fame.
This week news broke that she acquired Princess Diana’s gigantic amethyst cross necklace for a cool $200K. In addition to the infamous Marilyn met gala moment she owns Jackie Kennedy’s Cartier Tank, Elizabeth Taylor’s bracelets, and Michael Jackson’s hat. While she returned MM’s dress she kept a lock.of.her.hair… aka 4 horcruxes - one for each of her kids or sisters, but something tells me she’s not done. Listen, I am a yugeeee Kardashian Apologist, especially Kim, but just saying I think I’ve seen this film before…………
Outside of my demanding day job watching potential Oscar movies, here's some other content I consumed this week!
Reading: Spare - Although this was really last week’s news, I am savoring the flavor because I quite honestly cannot get enough of this messy ass drunk text of a biography! I was listening to the audiobook at the nail salon when he SANG the lyrics to Elton’s “Your Song” and I audibly screeched. I never want this to end! Fire up the sequel!
Listening: “Table for Two” with Bruce Bozzi. Bruce Bozzi’s family started the famed restaurant chain The Palm, but I know him as the husband of Hollywood power agent Bryan Lourd, (rip) Carrie Fisher’s ex/baby daddy. He’s perfectly A-List adjacent, a placement in the Hollywood social scene I really aspire to. He launched a new podcast with Air Mail (one of my fav sites) where he sits down with a pal at a great restaurant. First one was ScarJo @ Via Carota. This week I listened to him and his longtime bestie ANDY COHEN talk about friendship over pasta in Sag Harbor, easy and enjoyable.
Watching / Living: Tonight I’m trying the restaurant Holiday Bar and going to see a play called ‘The Collaboration’. It’s about the relationship between artists Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Seeing a play about artists, I am SOOOOO cultured lol. Paul Bettany and Jeremy Pope star and honestly nothing gets me to a B-Way show faster than a celebrity lead. Lea Michele I am COMING for you! Also if anyone wants to see Maude Apatow in Little Shop of Horrors off broadway, let me know! Tickets to her opening night were only like $150 last week and that’s well below the price I’d pay to sit in the same room as Leslie Mann. Anyway I’ll let you know how The Collaboration is!
TGIF it’s time to get off the couch, go have a tini, and support the arts!
Ciao!
Your KK horcrux theory is absolute truth and I’d love to see little miss Maude off bway
“messy ass drunk text” is too real. sign me up for maude!
