Hi PALS!
WARNING: I am choosing violence today. I donāt really like the Grammys and I am going to tell you why.Ā
But Tricia, isnāt your favorite season Awards? Yes! Yes, it is! I love the collective watching. I love going on twitter and following along with everyoneās live commentary. I love, LOVE celebrities as you know, but the Grammys are not my show. Iād be thrilled to be invited to any awards show, but I have a feeling Iād be looking like Ben Affleck after an hour or so.
Thereās a couple of reasons for this. The primary one being that I have the music taste of an 13 year old girlie girl, a 60 year old dad cleaning out his garage listening to CDs, And/or a rich 1980s British college age kid manning the jukebox in a pub. I was THRILLED when apple put that u2 album on my phone. I paid 99 cents to download Raspberry Beret by Prince on my lime green mini ipod and since 2004 itās been one of my top 10 most played songs every year.Ā Rock the Casbah cracked my top 5 on Spotify Wrapped. #1 this year was Late Night Talking by HS and #2 was āIt never Rains in Southern Californiaā, eclectic! I love Harry Styles, John Mayer, Haim, Lizzo, Dua Lipa, Adele, Lady Gaga and the entirety of the 1985 Live Aid concert lineup. I am actually beyond obsessed with Live Aid. I watch the performances on youtube WEEKLY. Iām ACTUALLY WEARING MY SHIRT TODAY!
I say this with the absolute most sincerity, but Bohemian Rhapsody changed my life. Our first dance was to Queen. I remember when I first heard Modern Love by David Bowie. And āAnd She Wasā by the Talking Heads. Listen, I have no shame. I think my taste in music is cool as hell and adds even more dimension to my already colorful personality, but I donāt pretend to be on the cutting edge, or even relevant really, in the music scene. Movies/TV, Iām your girl. Music - I like what I like, don't change me!Ā
Another reason I donāt love the Grammys is I think the red carpet fashion is absolute f*cking chaos. And not in a good way. Mostly everyone looks like a clown. Iām sorry this is just one girlās humble opinion. Iām not here to make friends, I am here to incite discourse on popular culture! Not everyone, a reader asked my opinion on Cardi Bās wild fit and I actually did love that. Somehow she can pull off these big time lewks in a high fashion, couture way when others look just plain old stupid. I obviously liked Harry Stylesā overalls. Doja Cat looked chic. Taylor Swift looked snooze. (I have a big time love hate with her, more on that another day. I am choosing enough violence). I saw someone tweet that Blac Chyna was dressed like Edgar Allen Poeās Raven and wish I thought of that joke, but I honestly try not to ever think about Blac Chyna at all. Jack Harlow was giving OJ with those gloves. Who let Shania Twain walk out the house like that???? I do not have enough characters to list out the rest of the worst dressed.Ā
Moment of appreciation for Bad Bunny though. I actually did not know what he looked like until Sunday and wowie I was missing out. This man is literally en fuego.
Now that I think about it I actually kind of hate a lot of musicians lol. Actors >>>>>> Musicians. I know this is an unpopular opinion!!!!!!! I donāt care! Itās my tomatoes! I would rather be a famous actor than a famous singer. Another unpopular opinion but whatever!!!!!!!
To round this out, I feel I must weigh in on the Album of the year controversy! Harryās House is no doubt a top to bottom, no skips album of certified bangers. To me, thatās what Album of the year is. Something that is just straight up no skips. Obviously I am a bit personally biased here. Again referencing my Spotify Wrapped lol but 3 out of the top 5 were from Harryās House (the other 2 were as previously stated, my dad and 80s jams). It also reminds me of my bachelorette party, one of my top 5 favorite weekends ever. Mostly everyone else thinks it shouldāve gone to BeyoncĆ©. Iām really risking cancellation here, but I just LIKE BeyoncĆ©. I do not subscribe to the thinking that she walks on water. I do like her!!!!!! I am just not a āI would die for herā level fan Homecoming the live album does get me so hyped I could run through a brick wall. Iām a āBāDayā and ā4ā girlie pop and I groove to Renaissance like the rest of you, but it has some skips!!!! It was rude that barely anyone gave Harry and standing O and people were booing him like honestly grow up. The Behive needs to take a chill pill. My west coast office brought up a good point too - wasnāt everyone just mad at her for performing in very anti-gay Dubai and not singing any songs from Renaissance, a very pro-Queer album. ???? Everyone is always MAD online and should go touch some grass. I say this very self aware I just wrote a couple hundred negative words on an Awards show, but whatever. To end on a positive note some other ātop to bottom no skipā albums for me are Continuum, Pure Heroin, 30, 1989, Cuz I Love You, Future Nostalgia, Chromatica, Sweetenerā¦ What are yours??????Ā
Anyway, moving onto my fav Award showā¦ not much Oscar news this week! If youāre new, catch up on the drama from last week here! Weāre in a bit of a lull now, but with the BAFTAs next weekend and the SAGs the weekend after there will be plenty of news. The only thing I heard is that Angela Bassett might not be as much of a lock for Best Supporting Actress as we all thought. She was riding high with globes and critics choice wins. People were thinking the Academy would be kind of recognizing her overall career of talented performances by giving her an award for a movie she was excellent in. It would also placate the army of people who think Marvel movies should be receive more awards acclaim, but when push comes to shove the academy members are snobs who look down on superhero movies and through the privacy and anonymity of voting might ultimately show that. Kerry Condon from Banshees is coming for AB!Ā
Watching/Reading/Listening to this week -
Watching - I am dying to watch the Pamela doc. I donāt know why I havenāt yet. Actually I doā¦ I am deep in the throws of a Girls rewatch. This feels like a safe space to admit I watched almost FOUR SEASONS THIS WEEK HAHAHA. No I am not going through something, well I guess I am just going through whatever the emotional effects of watching 4 seasons of Girls in a week are. This is mikeās first time watching and his commentary has been pretty excellent. It was truly priceless to watch him react to Marnie singing at Charlieās work party. BEYOND CRINGE! Marnie Michaels walked so Kendall Roy could run!!!!!!!!!!! L to the OG!Ā
Reading - I had a bad day at work this week but I am 30 and #mature so to cope I took a walk, went to Pilates, and spent $60 at McNally Jackson. I became a big library girlie last year and boldly stated stopping buying books was how I was going to afford a house one day, but relapsed. Buying books is honestly my least egregious spending habit. I started āThe Shardsā and am really excited to delve in fully this weekend. Iām a big Bret Easton Ellis girlie and the synopsis had a lot of Secret History vibes which is one of my all time favorite books. I am kind of high brow too ya know!
Listening - Me again, recommending Bruce Bozziās podcast lol. He had George Clooney and Julia Roberts on and it no joke brought tears to my eyes hahahhahha I just love them so much. They have the best chemistry. Their friendship is so pure and lovely. They want to make more movies together in the future and Triciaās Tomatoes Studios will gladly fund them!!!!!!!!!!
I will leave you with my ongoing list of other projects the future Triciaās Tomatoes studios will produce:
Gossip Girl reboot (since it was canceled by HBOMAX)
Crazy Rich Asians 2 and 3
A CRA spinoff focused on Gemma Chanās character
High Fidelity season 2Ā
A Harry Styles Documentary
Minx (another HBOMAX casualty)
Anything Thomas Doherty wants to do
Last call for celebrity crushes!!!!!!! Please, please tell me them for a special V Day edition of TT!
Ciao!Ā
